Only 170 Days Left ’till Steelers/Titans

nflfootballtvThat’s right.  It’s only 170 days until the start of the NFL season and YES, before you ask, we WILL add a countdown clock for the opener of the NFL Season as well as the NFL Draft.

Why are we talking about this?  Because the opening game has been decided and the scheduling committee has slated the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers will kickoff the 2009 NFL season against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, September 10 at Hines Field.

The NFL is currently holding their annual owner’s committee meetings this week in California and they have decided to announced the prime time games for the 2009 Kickoff Weekend, as well as this year’s Thanksgiving Day slate, at its annual meeting in California.

The other prime time games for Opening Weekend will be Chicago vs Green Bay at Lambeau Field on Sunday night (NBC).  Monday Night will feature a doubleheader with Buffalo going to Foxborough to face New England, as well as Oakland hosting San Diego.

Despite numerous complaints, the Detroit Lions will remain on our television sets for another Thanksgiving when they host the GreenBay Packers in the afternoon.  The Oakland Raiders will return to Turkey-Day Football for the first time in 39 years against the Dallas Cowboys in the early evening.  The Night game will be the first Thanksgiving Day game in Denver since 1963, as the NewYork Giants will travel to Invescoe Field to face Little Joshie McCheese and the McNuggets.

The remainder of the 2009 schedule will be announced sometime in April.
