Most Wanted: Shaun Phillips Cited for Battery

shaun-phillipsChargers linebacker Shaun Phillips allegedly gave a night club security guard a wrap to the “Jack Johnson”. The incident was reported about 1:25 a.m. early Saturday morning at the Ivy Hotel on F Street, according to San Diego police.

Authorities report a brawl broke out in the club but they also said neither Phillips nor any other Chargers players were involved in the incident.

This is apparently the second time this month that Phillips has been involved in a battery incident, as police claim that on April 11 a security guard at the Stingaree club on Sixth Avenue said Phillips choked and punched him. The guard reported the incident several hours later and Phillips was named as a suspect but was not arrested or cited.

Phillips denies having anything to do with the incident on Saturday Morning. Saying; “It was somebody else’s mishap. It had nothing to do with me or my teammates,” Phillips said. He confirmed that he received a citation and said the officer was “just doing his job based on one person’s account.”

“There is video of the whole thing, and it won’t show me anywhere in the vicinity,” Phillips said.

Phillips also was arrested in April 2006 for an altercation with a patrol officer in downtown San Diego. The City Attorney’s Office declined to file charges after reviewing the case.
