It’s hard to believe that this is the last weekend of September and we’re already looking at the first bye week.
I guess I should get over it because by this time in 2012, we’ll be at week 6 of the 18-game regular season or maybe not if you’re listening to Bill Polian.

Be that as it may, it’s time to hit the finer points and the waiver wire recommendations.
• I’m not going to sit here and tell you to go pickup Lance Moore because I’ve been telling you all to pick him up for a while now. He shouldn’t be available in your leagues but if he is, you may as well stash him on the roster. Will he repeat his performance from last week? Hell no but he should still be heavily involved in a pass-first offense w/ an all-pro QB calling the shots. You’ll have to deal with Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem, and Colston having their days but Moore should score consistent points in PPR leagues just like he did back in 2008.
• I say again, if you honestly thought Brandon Marshall wouldn’t approach 100 receptions you really haven’t watched that many of his games. The Broncos under the Shanahan regime were too run-heavy to have a 100+ reception WR but Marshall got it done, then Josh McDaniels’ offense supposedly couldn’t produce a 100+ reception WR but Marshall got it done, and now it’s Miami being too run-heavy. You can go ahead and say it, he’s getting 100 receptions as long as he stays healthy. Read more…
With all the offensive players being shuffled around, the quarterbacks getting benched, and the coaches on the hot-seat, I can’t help but remind myself how great IDP really is.
It really does teach a fantasy owner to fight the urge to be fickle and exercise patience with players. Examine the whys, the situation, and retrace what happened in a particular week. Case in point, Charles Godfrey of the Carolina Panthers. I was all about picking the kid up after a nice tackle total in week 1, only to be upset for starting him in week 2.(1 solo tackle)
I didn’t drop him and waited to see what week 3 would bring and of course, 9 solos, 2 assists, and an INT later, it was a good thing I’ve still got this guy stashed for depth and bye weeks. If he’s still out there, I’d recommend snagging him before it’s too late.
Alright, I’ve got some waiver pickups for you but first we’re going to get to what went down in week 3 and how it impacts your fantasy team w/ our “Pick-Six”.
• DeAndre Levy owners finally got to see their LB 1/2 back in the lineup for the first time this season after missing the first two games nursing a groin injury but too bad it was short lived, as Levy exited the game late in the 4th quarter with an ankle injury. It looks like the ankle isn’t as serious but the groin is still an issue for Levy. Proceed with caution. Read more…
Well it’s about that time. Week 2 has come and gone but what a week 2 it was.
OK, I better just address the Kevin Kolb debacle before everything else. About all I can say for myself is that I did at least recommend picking Michael Vick up for the short-term. Who knew that would turn out to be long term, as Andy Reid named Vick the starter just yesterday over Kevin Kolb.
While it’s discouraging, it does show you how fickle the nature of the NFL is and how nothing is EVER guaranteed. Kolb may have only had two series in which he split time with Vick to prove that he was the starter because that makes so much sense.
While I’m extremely happy for Vick and what he’s doing for his career, I’m concerned with the rest of the skill position players like Brent Celek and Jeremy Maclin who haven’t taken off in the box score like I expected. The only Eagles player this move seems to have benefited is LeSean McCoy with Vick relying heavily on the second year back, as McCoy leads Philadelphia with 9 receptions.

Unless you’ve been in a comma or living under a rock, you’ve heard every last rumor under the sun about what team Vincent Jackson will play for this year or if he’ll play at all, but it appears that things have started to clear up a little bit.
Jackson has the ability to play week 5 as long as he’s traded to another team by this coming Wednesday and recent rumors have reported that one team already has a deal in place, provided the Chargers accept the terms of the trade.
The biggest question marks surrounding Jackson this off-season are what kind of game shape he’s going to be in and if he can absorb a team’s playbook when he arrives.

Michael Vick – QB – Philadelphia Eagles
I know you’re as pissed off as I am about Kevin Kolb’s concussion and I can’t begin to tell you how inconvenient this is going to be to roster both Eagles QBs but we’re out for points this week. Mind you, this is just a pick up for one or maybe two weeks and insurance for Kolb but no more. I really see Kolb getting back on the field soon and he’ll be the QB to have in this offense once he is back. The bottom line does remain that Vick can do some great things while Kolb is out of the lineup and he’s got a terrific match-up coming against a poor Lions’ passing defense that let Matt Forte run wild after the catch on Sunday. Vick will get into the open field in this game and expose the Lions secondary with his feet and his arm. We’re basically one week away and while most of you are drafting now or this weekend, a lot of folks out there have already had their drafts and the good old waiver wire is about to open up for the first time of the year..
Yes, I can hear most of you saying; “If you need to hit the waiver wire, you’re already in trouble.” Maybe so but the inevitable outcome in most of your early drafts is that you’re going to end up with an injured player, could be a released, or possibly suspended.
The bottom line remains that players like Matt Leinart, Ben Tate, Donnie Avery, and Sidney Rice were drafted in a majority of league formats and they need replacing now.
I’m not going to sugar-coat it either, this list isn’t full of gems or dandies. These are players that are likely available in your leagues, so I’m going to cover their situations and give you my take on their potential impact early in the 2010 season. Read more…
